Now in their seventh year, the 2005 Awards are no exception, with the standards higher than ever in every category.
Likened to a cluster of prawn crackers, the Cloud lamp immediately struck a chord with the judges who appreciated its originality. The fact that is designed by esteemed architect Frank Gehry came as a pleasant surprise. Gehry developed Cloud as a homage to the sculptural work of Isamu Noguchi and was initially constructed out of deformed paper cups stapled together, another factor that made the judges smile. Due to safety reasons a more practical alternative was selected: a multiply refined polyester. With its fibrous appearance it looks just like paper, giving the lamp an appealing, ephemeral quality. Also showcased at the International Furniture Fair in Cologne Germany, 2006.
The voluminous, but delicate paper-like lampshade consists in each case of several linked shell elements that can be altered simply by bulging them out or pressing them in. It features a polyester fleece that has been treated several times and which looks and feels like strong fibrous paper. Pliable, tearproof, inflammable, non-ageing and easy to clean.

Cloud 30 = 480MM diameter = about 18.9" diameter
Cloud 32= 520MM diameter = about 20.5" diameter
Cloud 34 = 600MM diameter = about 23.6" diameter
